If, as the authors of The Unseen Universe held, a cause as small as the evolution of thought in a single human brain produces a positive effect on the universal ether, then how reasonable it appears that the impulses imparted to that same common medium by the sweep of myriad blazing orbs rushing through the interstellar depths should affect us, and the earth we live on, in a powerful degree.

The second move is an argument from the limits of what was then known. If astronomers cannot explain the occult law by which drifting particles of cosmic matter aggregate into worlds and then take their places in the procession moving around a central point of attraction, how can anyone presume to say what influences may or may not be darting through space and affecting the issues of life on this and other planets? Almost nothing is known of the laws of magnetism and the other imponderable agents, she notes, and almost nothing of their effects on our bodies and minds; even what is known and perfectly demonstrated gets attributed to chance and curious coincidence. The conclusion the file exists for is that there is no such thing as coincidence — the apparent coincidences being precisely the evidence.
