Proposition 3: The Last Three Root-Races
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky · Secret Doctrine's Third Proposition Series · 58 pages
Fifty-eight pages with a full contents page and train of thoughts, opened by notes from the series editor, quick definitions and a note to students. Its cover subtitle is Present and future waves of humanity, and it is the companion volume to "The first four Root-Races" — the two together covering the whole sequence.
It begins with the Fifth Root-Race, the Aryan, which is where the scheme reaches the present day and therefore the reader. The historical claim is stated plainly: the Atlanteans were the first purely human, earthly race, and the Aryans are the second — so the Fifth Race is not the first properly human one. The section on the Divine Kings who incarnated on earth to teach nascent humanity is the part that connects this file to the rest of the section, and its most attractive detail is a remark about method rather than doctrine: the wise leaders of our race lived their lives in learning, not teaching, and what they knew they passed on in solemn silence and secrecy to the elect. They are named as the Sons of the Fire, the King-Instructors who incarnated here to teach — the same beings called the Sons of the Fire-Mist elsewhere in this batch, and the subject of the separate appendix on the Divine Instructors. A verse from Genesis is used as a heading along the way, two nations are in thy womb, which is characteristic of the file's habit of reading scripture as ethnology. The Sixth and Seventh races follow, and for those the file necessarily turns from history to prediction — the future of the Sixth Race being taken up in more detail in "The future of the American Continent and its Peoples" in this same section.
