Proposition 3: Colours of the Seven Root-Races

Six pages, first published in The Theosophist volume V number 3, December 1883, pages 77 to 79, and republished in the Collected Writings volume VI as her footnotes to an article called "Yoga and Kalpa". *It is the shortest file in this batch*, and the companion sheet of the same name is held separately in this section as an image.

It opens not with the colours but with an act of refusal, and that opening is the most human thing in the file. She fully appreciates the kindly feeling in which she is referred to in the article that follows, she says — but there should be a limit even to sincerely felt expressions. She has no desire to follow in the steps of Babu Keshub Chunder Sen, and has never laid and never will lay claim to being classed with Sadhus or Gurus who have attained the whole truth, least of all with gods. The warning to her admirer is put as a general rule and is worth the space it takes: too much enthusiasm generally degenerates into fanaticism. Coming from the founder of a movement, and printed in that movement's own journal over her own name, it is a corrective of the sort this library records more often than one might expect. The footnotes proper then deal with the colours attributed to the seven root-races, which is a subject better approached through the diagram of the same name and through "Colours of our Seven Planets and Root-Races" in this section, where the correspondences are set out in full.
