Twenty-One Nuggets of Karmic Law

Twenty-four pages arranged as *twenty-one numbered nuggets*, each a short self-contained piece with its own heading and page number. Of everything in this section it is the most usable as a reference: a reader with one question can go to the relevant number rather than read a treatise.

The headings show the range. It opens on the practical — that belief in karma instils personal responsibility, with the reminder that we are the brothers and teachers of all below us and the warning not to hinder and delay all nature by a failure in virtue — and follows immediately with a nugget on coping with bad karma, whose answer is the formula used elsewhere in this library: resist without resistance. The middle numbers are definitional: that karma allots kinetic energy, binds free will, corrects mental transgressions, and is the vessel of our person and character; that it is threefold, kriyamana, prarabdha and sanchita; and that it records every deed and thought, desire being the agent empowered by it and fulfilled through thoughts, words and actions which then become new causes. Two of the nuggets are unusually candid about fallibility at the highest levels — that man and angel alike stand under karmic law, that the holy youths had to suffer in later births for refusing to create, and that even Gautama's failure to conceal certain dogmas is cited as showing that all are fallible. Number 12 is the most cautionary: that the study of true occultism brings up the entire latent character of the person, and that the path of the elect is far steeper than Golgotha. The remaining numbers cover the ground a reader is most likely to arrive with a question about — that nothing can hide from the all-seeing law, that there is no praise for homicide, no vicarious atonement for sins, and a section on parental karma.
