Hindu versus Chaldeo-Jewish Cosmogony
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky · Secret Doctrine's First Proposition Series · 14 pages
Fourteen pages explaining *two diagrams from Isis Unveiled** — one Hindu and one Chaldeo-Jewish — which represent the chaotic and the formative periods before and after our universe began to be evolved. The two are set out in parallel columns* and compared level by level, which is what makes the file useful; the diagrams themselves are also listed separately on the section page as images.
A short preface argues for the antiquity of the Hindu figure from the fact that many Brāhmanical pagodas are designed and built on it, the Śri-Yantra — noting that the same figure received the highest honours from Jewish and mediaeval kabbalists, who called it Solomon's seal, and suggesting its origin can be traced once the king-kabbalist's dealings with Hiram and Ophir, the country of peacocks, gold and ivory, are looked for in old India. The comparison then proceeds term by term. In the upper triangle, the Hindu column has the Ineffable Name, the AUM, to be pronounced only mentally under penalty of death — the unrevealed Parabrahman, the passive principle, the absolute and unconditioned which cannot enter into the condition of a creator, since a creator, in order to think, will and plan, must be bound and conditioned and so in one sense finite. The Chaldean column has Ain-Soph, the Boundless, whose name is known to none but the initiated and could not be pronounced aloud under the same penalty — and which no more than Parabrahman can create, being in the same condition of non-being. Setting the two side by side is the whole method of the file, and the claim it supports is stated at the head: that the esoteric Brahmanical, Buddhistic and Chaldean standpoints agree in every respect with the evolutionary theory of modern science.
