Antahkarana: The Bridge Between the Two Minds

A 36-page compilation on the link between the two minds, and the fullest treatment of Antahkarana in the library. It opens with the same four definitions used in Higher Self and Higher Ego in Confusing Words — the Higher Self as universal mind in its macrocosmic aspect, the Higher Manas as individualised mind in its microcosmic aspect, the lower Manas as a ray from the Higher Ego and its alter ego, and the brain as the vehicle of the lower Manas enthroned in Kama-Rupa. The human Manas is then described as pure and impure at once: divided on earth, united in heaven.

Antahkarana is defined as that portion of the lower Manas which is one with the higher — the part on which all good and noble aspirations are impressed and in which the upward energies of the lower mind are gathered. The claim made for it is the strongest in the section: that the whole fate of an incarnation depends on whether this pure essence can restrain Kama-Manas or not, that it is the only salvation, and that to break it is to become an animal. Against it is set Ahamkara, the perception of "I" or the sense of one's personal individuality, typified by egotism. The account complements Death and post-mortem states in batch 1, where Antahkarana is described in its post-mortem function and the warning is given against destroying the bridge before the personal is under the control of the impersonal Ego.
