The Auric Egg: Nature, States, Functions

The esoteric member of the three Constitution of Man files, and the one dealing with what the published accounts leave out — its running head notes that public mention of the auric body was not permitted. It opens on the cosmic scale: that the first manifestation of the Kosmos in the form of an egg was the most widely diffused belief of antiquity, and that it is from Padma-yoni, the bosom of the lotus, out of the absolute Space of the universe beyond space and time, that the conditioned Cosmos came forth. The Matri-Padma is then distinguished as the eternal egg which becomes periodical only when the ray from the first Logos flashes from the latent germ within it.

The states and functions are given in sequence. During the life of a common man the Auric Egg remains outside the physical envelope; after death it rises to the Devachanic state of consciousness before forming, out of the psychic dregs of the deceased, a new astral body for the next journey into objectivity. Between lives it is the Sutratman, incarnating from the beginning of the manvantara to its end — the thread-soul treated separately elsewhere in this section. The adept's differs: his Auric Egg remains constantly in the Nirmanakayic state, beyond the illusions of a Devachani, and supplies his astral bodies from the Augoeides down to the mayavi-rupa.
