The colour key to the diagrams used throughout this series, taken from the first of the E.S. Instructions in Blavatsky Collected Writings XII. Atman is placed first and is no principle at all, standing separate from the man whose seven are then given with their colours: the Auric Egg blue; Buddhi yellow; the upper Manas an upward-pointing triangle in indigo-blue; the lower Manas a downward-pointing triangle in green; Kama a five-pointed star with the horns of evil upwards, embracing the lower Manas, in blood-red; the Linga-sharira violet, as vehicle of Prana and partaking of Kama and occasionally of the auric envelope; Prana orange, the hue of the ascetic's robes; and the physical body represented by the mayavic contour of the large five-pointed star within the Auric Egg.

The second half addresses a confusion the drawings themselves create. Students are told to add the secret enumeration of Diagram 2 to the exoteric order of Drawing 1, and are warned that the numbers attached to the psychic principles in the two appear reversed — which is because numbering in this connection is purely arbitrary and changes with every school. That is the same difficulty argued out at length in Classification of the Principles in Man, also in this section; here it is simply flagged so that a reader comparing two diagrams does not conclude that one of them is wrong. A footnote gives the underlying idea: that man functions on and responds to seven distinct yet correlated wavelengths, each answering to a specific plane.
