The Real Christ Is Buddhi-Manas, the Glorified Divine Ego

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky · Buddhas and Initiates Series · 67 pages

The longest of Blavatsky's own studies in this section, organised around one question: was Jesus, as Son of God and Saviour of Mankind, unique in the world's annals? The answer given at the outset is that the real saviours of mankind all descend to the nether world, the kingdom of darkness, temptation, lust and selfishness, and that having overcome the Chrēst condition — the tyranny of separateness — their astral or worldly ego is enlightened by Lucifer, the Glorified Divine Ego or Buddhi-Manas, who is the real Christ in every man. Pythagoras, Buddha and Apollonius are placed as initiates of the same secret school.

The middle chapters turn to the historical record and are sharply put: that the infallible churches made up history as they went along, that the Apostolic Church was built on a jumble of contradictions, and that the Fathers falsified Jesus' last words. Her own reading of those words gives the thanksgiving prayer of the initiate, the Son and Glorified Elect of the Sun — "My God, my Sun, thou hast poured thy radiance upon me!" — and so his Father's name written on his forehead. The astronomical key that recurs through this section is set out again, Chrēstos and Christos linked as Scorpio in humiliation and Leo in triumph, and there is a long passage on the Sun as the external manifestation of the seventh principle of our planetary system and the Moon as its fourth, shining in the borrowed robes of her master.
